Fundamentals of Dynamic Positioning

Course Name:
"Fundamentals of Dynamic Positioning"

Course Overview:
For deepwater applications and offloading operations, Dynamic Positioning (DP) has become the most preferred method for station keeping. Design and use of DP systems requires a detailed insight in a broad range of topics: from system design and vessel hydrodynamics to thruster systems and control methodology. The interaction between these aspects makes DP a very complex and interesting topic. This course provides insight based on the expertise of the world leading experts in this field from the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) and SBM GustoMSC.  Each student will receive 6.5 PDH's.

Course Attendees:
Everybody who is interested in the hydrodynamic, design and control principles that are fundamental to the understanding of Dynamic Positioning of units.

Course Topics:
1. DP system design
2. Wind, wave and current loads
3. Thruster allocation
4. Thruster interaction
5. Kalman filtering
6. Control methodology
7. Relative DP for offloading operations
8. Tools and testing
